Mercedes-AMG is once again confirming the enduring appeal of its V8 engines with the introduction of updated GLE 63 S Coupe and GLS 63 models. These powerful SUVs showcase a strategic shift, as Mercedes-Benz embraces V8 technology complemented by modern mild-hybrid systems, moving past previous considerations for four-cylinder PHEV options. The revitalized models offer a compelling blend of performance and luxury, asserting their dominance in the high-performance SUV segment.
The core of these upgraded vehicles is a refined twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, now producing a formidable 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. This engine has been meticulously re-engineered for heightened responsiveness and a more immediate feel, partly thanks to a new flat-plane crankshaft that reduces rotational mass. Enhanced intakes and turbochargers further contribute to improved throttle response and overall efficiency. A significant addition is the 48-volt mild-hybrid system, featuring an updated Integrated Starter Generator (ISG 2.0). The expanded MANUFAKTUR personalization program allows for bespoke paint finishes and luxurious interior options like Yacht Blue and Tartufo Brown leather.
