Award-winning composer Kris Bowers has been tapped to craft the musical landscape for Disney's forthcoming animated movie, “Hexed.” This enchanting narrative features the vocal talents of Hailee Steinfeld, Rashida Jones, Jodie Foster, and Walton Goggins. The film chronicles the adventures of an extraordinary teenage girl who uncovers latent magical abilities, propelling her into a fantastical journey through a secret realm inhabited by witches.

Scheduled for a theatrical release on November 25, “Hexed” promises a unique auditory experience. Bowers expressed that his approach to scoring “Hexed” was deeply rooted in exploration and experimentation. Inspired by the protagonist's dream of flight, both literal and figurative, he delved into unconventional sound creation, employing instruments like bird whistles, wind wands, nose flutes, and even transforming recordings of actual birds into musical elements. The film's distinct magical setting encouraged a fusion of orchestral, chamber woodwind, synthesized, and natural sounds, blurring the boundaries between acoustic and electronic textures. Bowers emphasized his desire for the music to convey the profound emotional connection between a mother and daughter, alongside the wonder and adventure that define this mystical world, crediting the collaborative spirit of the Disney Animation team for their engaging partnership.

The creative vision for “Hexed” is brought to life by directors Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Roy Conli and Yvett Merino serving as producers. Beyond his work on “Hexed,” Bowers has also contributed scores to Netflix’s animated feature “Steps” and the upcoming Paramount/Skydance sports drama “Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story,” set to debut on December 25. His prolific career also includes a reunion with filmmaker Ben Proudfoot to score the documentary “The Eyes Of Ghana.”

Kris Bowers' dedication to innovative sound and emotional storytelling enriches the cinematic experience, inviting audiences into worlds both familiar and magical. His commitment to blending diverse musical elements to reflect a narrative's core themes exemplifies the power of music to elevate and define a film's essence, creating an unforgettable journey for viewers.
