Embracer Group has recently announced a refined launch period for the highly anticipated title, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, setting expectations for its release by April 2028. This update comes after an earlier delay pushed the game's debut from its initial 2027 target to an unspecified point in 2028. Fans of the iconic adventurer, Lara Croft, can now look forward to a more concrete timeframe for her next original journey.

The latest financial report from Embracer Group unveiled revised plans for their fiscal year spanning 2027 to 2028, which notably includes the new Tomb Raider installment. This means the game is slated to arrive before the end of the fiscal period, specifically by April 2028, assuming no further postponements. Catalyst represents the first completely new game in the series since the conclusion of the Survivor Trilogy with Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018.

Moreover, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set to advance the franchise's unified narrative, blending elements from the Survivor Trilogy with earlier games in Lara Croft's history. According to series lore, the events of Catalyst will unfold after those depicted in 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld. This strategic integration aims to provide a cohesive story arc for dedicated followers. Despite this positive news, Crystal Dynamics, the game's developer, has faced some challenges, including multiple rounds of employee reductions since its acquisition by Embracer Group in 2022, with the most recent affecting 20 staff members this past March.

Meanwhile, enthusiasts of the Tomb Raider universe also have another exciting release on the horizon: Legacy of Atlantis. This reimagined version of Lara Croft's inaugural expedition is scheduled for release on February 12, 2027. Originally planned for an earlier launch this year, the remake, which was revealed alongside Catalyst in 2025, also experienced a delay. The Embracer earnings report didn't stop there, also confirming that Darksiders 4 and the next entry in the Kingdom Come saga are anticipated to launch by the close of the 2027/2028 fiscal year, signaling a strong investment in these popular franchises following the success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

The gaming community has eagerly awaited more specifics regarding Lara Croft's next chapter, and this announcement from Embracer Group provides a much-needed update.
