The Rome MIA Market is set to launch an innovative European Investment Hub, aiming to streamline access to financial tools for professionals in the European audiovisual sector. This initiative will consolidate information on soft money and equity financing, helping producers navigate the complex funding landscape. The program is designed to facilitate direct engagement between content creators and funding entities, fostering growth across all scales of production, from independent films to large-budget series.

This new platform addresses a critical need within the industry, particularly for small and medium-sized producers who often face challenges in securing adequate financing. By providing a clear overview of available resources and promoting dialogue, the European Investment Hub seeks to dismantle financial barriers and encourage robust investment in European creativity and intellectual property.

European Investment Hub: Bridging Finance and Creativity

The Rome MIA Market’s new European Investment Hub is a strategic initiative developed in collaboration with key European bodies, including the European Commission, the European Investment Fund (EIF), CineRegio, and Eurimages, alongside significant private equity contributors. This two-day program, scheduled for October 19-23, will feature a series of panels, roundtables, and one-on-one advisory sessions. These interactive events are specifically designed to connect producers directly with a diverse range of funding sources, including European co-production funds, equity funds for content creation, and essential risk-mitigation mechanisms. The objective is to demystify financial tools and facilitate easier access to both public and private capital, ensuring that creators can secure the necessary backing for their projects.

The hub aims to explore and elucidate various financial instruments that can support the European audiovisual industry. This includes detailed discussions on how to access co-production funds, utilize equity financing dedicated to content development, and implement completion bonds. Experts will also delve into risk-mitigation strategies developed in conjunction with European and national institutions. With the participation of prominent figures such as Roeg Sutherland from CAA and Raj Singh from Media Capital Technologies, the initiative promises to offer invaluable insights. These discussions are crucial for empowering producers to understand and leverage the financial ecosystem, ultimately fostering a more dynamic and well-resourced audiovisual sector across Europe.

Driving Industry Growth Through Strategic Funding

Industry leaders widely acknowledge that access to finance is a pivotal factor for the growth and evolution of the audiovisual industry. Alessandro Usai, head of Italy's national motion picture association ANICA, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to remove existing barriers and improve funding practices. The European Investment Hub will delve into public-private partnerships, guarantee systems, and the interplay between national, European, and international financial tools. This comprehensive approach is designed to benefit the entire sector, ensuring that innovative projects receive the support they need to thrive. The market will also serve as a crucial platform for showcasing new ventures, such as a public-private fund proposed by the Italian TV producers' association APA, aimed at bolstering financing for local content creators.

The panels at the hub, such as “Unlocking Italy’s Potential,” will specifically address opportunities within various national industries, with experts like Raj Singh, Roeg Sutherland, and entertainment lawyer Steve Saltzman offering insights into the Italian market’s offerings. Discussions will also feature representatives from diverse investment entities, including Christopher Woodrow of Media Capital Technologies and Celine Dornier of IPR.VC, focusing on equity and growth capital for creative intellectual property. The program underscores the market’s commitment to catering to projects of all budget sizes, from high-budget productions exceeding €50 million to more modest independent and auteur-driven cinema. Representatives from 35 European co-production funds will clarify national funding mechanisms, including specific tax credits and systems, providing a practical guide for producers seeking to navigate the intricacies of European film and television financing.
