The highly anticipated second season of the acclaimed drama series, 'Heated Rivalry', has officially announced the addition of five new actors to its cast. This expansion signals a deeper dive into the narratives inspired by Rachel Reid's 'Game Changers' book series.

Emily Hampshire, known for her role in 'Schitt’s Creek', Edvin Ryding from '28 Years Later', Robert Naylor, Sabrina Jalees of 'Search Party', and Priyanka are the latest talents to join the production. These new additions come shortly after the announcement of Charlie Gillespie and Justice Smith in leading roles, who will share the screen with returning fan favorites Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie. Ryding is slated to portray Luca Haas, a new player for the Ottawa Centaurs, while Naylor will take on the role of Wyatt Hayes, the team's goalie. Both characters are integral teammates to Ilya Rozanov, played by Storrie, and later to Troy Barrett, portrayed by Gillespie, and are beloved figures from the original book series. Jalees will appear as Farah Jalali, serving as an agent to Shane Hollander (Williams) and Ilya Rozanov in the literary adaptation. Hampshire and Priyanka are cast as Vanessa and Tarek, respectively, characters from Reid's third novel, 'Tough Guy'. Their inclusion suggests an exploration of Fabian Salah and Ryan Price's love story, a central plotline in that novel, though the casting for Fabian and Ryan remains under wraps.

The second season will draw its storyline from Reid’s sixth novel, 'The Long Game', continuing the complex relationship between hockey players Shane and Ilya as they navigate life as a committed couple while keeping their romance private. Series creator Jacob Tierney, who also wrote and directed the first season, has indicated that 'Role Model', a narrative concurrent with 'The Long Game', will also contribute to the season's plot. 'Heated Rivalry' premiered in November 2025 and quickly propelled Williams and Storrie to stardom, earning Williams a Canadian Screen Award for his performance. Crave renewed the series for a second season shortly after its debut, with HBO Max confirming its continued broadcast. Production for the second season commenced this month, with a projected release in spring 2027.

The expansion of the 'Heated Rivalry' cast for its second season underscores the show's commitment to delivering a comprehensive and engaging adaptation of Rachel Reid's beloved 'Game Changers' series. By introducing a diverse array of characters and delving into new story arcs, the series not only enriches its narrative tapestry but also amplifies its message of love, perseverance, and the challenges of identity in the public eye. This thoughtful development ensures that the show continues to resonate with its audience, fostering a deeper connection to its themes of acceptance and authenticity.
