In the expansive universe of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, players often encounter the formidable Prison Tower, a location housing one of the initial bosses, the Warrior, whose defeat is necessary to unlock the Catacombs. While the lower levels of this imposing structure demand clever platforming and gate manipulation, reaching the very top, where the Warrior awaits on the Roof of the Tower, requires more than just agile movements. This comprehensive guide will illuminate the precise methods for ascending the Prison Tower and locating the indispensable carpenter's crane, a critical component for progression.

To successfully overcome the challenges presented by the Prison Tower, understanding its intricate layout and hidden mechanics is paramount. The journey involves not only navigating treacherous pathways but also uncovering secrets that facilitate access to new areas. From deciphering cryptic clues provided by ethereal spirits to mastering the art of whip-swinging across perilous gaps, every step is crucial for reaching the tower's summit and confronting the boss. This guide aims to simplify these complex tasks, enabling players to advance confidently through Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Ascending the Prison Tower to Confront the Warrior

To reach the Prison Tower's summit in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, where the Warrior boss resides, players must navigate through intricate pathways and uncover a hidden mechanism. The tower is situated in the northern part of the Paris Streets map, accessible by heading north from the Catacombs Gate and then proceeding west. Although much of the tower can be explored freely, the direct route to the Roof of the Tower, the Warrior's lair, is initially obstructed. The only way to bypass this barrier is by activating a concealed carpenter's crane, a device essential for progression.

The first step in unveiling the crane's location involves encountering a spirit on the western side of the Upper Tower. To reach this spirit, players need to execute a series of precise maneuvers: swing across two yellow anchors, ascend to a platform equipped with a lever, and then follow a challenging path to the left. This route is fraught with traps, demanding quick wall jumps and carefully timed whip swings to reach a small platform in the room's left corner. During this sequence, a "defense up" collectible can be found by breaking a wall on the right. After a descent, further whip timing is required to latch onto a purple anchor, then another to the right, ultimately leading to the spirit who imparts vital information about the crane.

Locating and Activating the Carpenter's Crane

After communicating with the spirit, players will obtain a sketch detailing the carpenter's crane and the mechanism required to open its access door. The sketch indicates an anchor that must be pulled to activate the crane, providing a visual clue for its location, although interpreting the map can prove challenging. The carpenter's crane is situated in the northeastern section of the Prison Tower map, necessitating a return to the lower levels to initiate the search.

To find the crane, players must revisit the lower part of the tower, specifically reaching the same elevation as the Mirror of Life room. From there, head west, and just before entering the tower, utilize a purple anchor to launch towards a yellow anchor. A precise swing back towards the tower will lead to a higher purple anchor, which, in turn, grants access to a platform. To the right of this platform, a yellow anchor is visible. Swing onto this anchor, where a wooden hexagon is located above it. By swinging on this wooden hexagon three times, the door to the crane will be unlocked, allowing players to ride it directly to the Roof of the Tower. This final ascent paves the way for the confrontation with the Warrior, bringing players one step closer to opening the Catacombs.
