This comprehensive guide delves into the intricate battle against Medusa, often referred to as the Prophetess, a formidable early adversary in the game "Castlevania: Belmont's Curse." To progress further into the catacombs, players must triumph over this boss to secure the necessary keys. The game design intentionally encourages exploration, leaving players to discover her whereabouts through environmental clues. This article not only pinpoints Medusa's precise location but also outlines effective strategies to defeat her, ensuring players are well-equipped for this challenging encounter.

To locate Medusa, adventurers must navigate to the Holy Innocents' Cemetery, situated to the west of the bustling Paris Streets. The most direct route to this somber resting place from the early stages of the game involves journeying left from the Street of the Tomb Masons district within Paris Streets. Upon reaching the Holy Innocents' Cemetery, players should continue their westward journey until they arrive at the Fountain of the Lost. A descent into the waters of this fountain will lead them to the Serpent's Lair area beneath. Medusa's lair, the ultimate challenge, lies in the furthest room to the left, accessible after passing the Mirror of Life on the right side.

Overcoming Medusa in "Castlevania: Belmont's Curse" hinges on mastering her attack sequence and skillfully maneuvering between the various platforms in the combat arena. A successful defeat not only yields the coveted Prophetess' Key but also bestows the powerful Petrifying Gaze arcana. Medusa employs three primary offensive maneuvers: a potent slam attack where she raises an arm before striking and slashing, requiring players to momentarily disengage from the platform; a petrifying beam, signaled by glowing particles, which can be avoided by turning Rose's back to Medusa; and a persistent tail attack, deployed when players linger on lower platforms. Learning to recognize and counter these attacks is paramount.

The key to victory lies in internalizing these attack patterns and developing agile evasion techniques. Once proficient in dodging, the objective shifts to maintaining position on the upper platform nearest to Medusa, seizing every opportunity to strike. After inflicting approximately 25% damage, Medusa unleashes her devastating ultimate ability. The screen will tremor, her tail will repeatedly strike the lower platforms, and she will execute a series of slashes directly in front of her. At the onset of the screen-shaking, players must swiftly relocate to the opposite upper platform from Medusa. Await her tail's return to the water, then seek refuge behind a substantial rock that has descended from the ceiling. This crucial shelter is consistently found on the lower platform opposite Medusa. Failure to find cover will result in being overwhelmed by the numerous beams emanating from her hair, leading to inevitable defeat.

Medusa reiterates her ultimate attack multiple times throughout the confrontation. While the sequence remains consistent, subsequent uses introduce additional hazards: smaller rocks begin to fall from the ceiling, capable of inflicting damage. Prioritizing cover behind the large rock, even while avoiding these new falling debris, is essential for survival. Mastering these evasive tactics and strategic positioning will ultimately lead to triumph over this formidable foe.
