Ferrari's upcoming open-top hypercar, the F80 Aperta, has been captured during test runs near the Maranello facility, showcasing a heavily camouflaged prototype. This new iteration is set to feature a manually detachable roof, distinguishing it from recent convertible models such as the Amalfi Spider with its electrically operated mechanism. The F80 Aperta is projected to be a more exclusive model than the coupe, with a probable debut in 2027, aligning with the 80-year milestone of Ferrari's inaugural production vehicle.

Earlier this year, Ferrari unveiled the Amalfi Spider, and now attention turns to another convertible model in its final stages of development. The F80 Aperta, a much-anticipated hypercar, was recently observed undergoing testing near the Maranello factory. Captured by Derek Photography, the prototype was extensively disguised, hinting at considerable design modifications, primarily above the cabin area, compared to its coupe sibling. Unlike the Amalfi Spider's electrically operated retractable roof, the F80 Aperta is expected to adopt a manually removable fabric top, similar to the previous LaFerrari Aperta. Owners will likely be able to store this fabric panel in the vehicle's trunk, offering a blend of traditional open-air motoring with modern hypercar performance. The LaFerrari Aperta also provided an option for a carbon-fiber roof, available in a visible weave or gloss black finish.

Ferrari plans to produce 799 units of the F80 coupe, and historically, convertible variants are often produced in even smaller quantities, suggesting the F80 Aperta will be a rarer commodity. Its potential unveiling in 2027 carries symbolic weight, as it would mark the 80th anniversary of the first Ferrari production model, the 125 S, which was also an open-top sports car. This timing creates a strong indication for the F80 Aperta's introduction next year. Despite featuring a V6 engine rather than a V12, the F80 coupe has already seen all its allocations sold to collectors prior to its official reveal. Consequently, the Aperta version is expected to sell out rapidly, commanding a price significantly higher than the coupe's approximate $3.7 million starting point.

The F80 Aperta is one of approximately 20 new models Ferrari intends to launch by the close of 2030. This ambitious pipeline also includes the highly anticipated electric Luce, the 12Cilindri Manuale with its simulated manual transmission, and potentially a 296 Challenge Stradale, a road-legal adaptation of the 296 Challenge race car. Furthermore, a new ultra-exclusive model from the Icona series is likely, possibly equipped with a V12 engine, following in the footsteps of the Monza SP1/SP2 and Daytona SP3. Interestingly, Ferrari has refuted claims of pressuring high-net-worth customers to purchase the electric Luce in order to secure build slots for its more exclusive models. The F80 Aperta will undoubtedly be among these coveted vehicles, but the manufacturer maintains that no such prerequisite exists for acquiring these elite automobiles.

The F80 Aperta represents a significant addition to Ferrari's hypercar lineup, blending performance with the allure of open-top driving. With a manually removable roof, this exclusive model is set to be a collector's item, celebrating Ferrari's heritage while pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering. Its anticipated launch in 2027 will not only mark an important anniversary for the brand but also introduce a highly sought-after vehicle to the elite automotive market.
