Charlie Hunnam to Lead 'Sons of Anarchy' Meta-Thriller Spinoff 'Legends'

FX has commissioned an innovative new series titled 'Legends,' a meta-thriller that will serve as a spin-off from the popular motorcycle club drama 'Sons of Anarchy.' This exciting development sees Charlie Hunnam, the show's original lead, return to helm the project.

The upcoming limited series is set to bring back the beloved original ensemble from 'Sons of Anarchy.' In a unique narrative twist, these actors will portray fictionalized versions of their real selves, facing a perilous real-world danger at a fan convention. This creative approach cleverly circumvents the challenge of reviving characters whose on-screen journeys had previously concluded, including the impactful send-off of Hunnam's character in the original series finale. Developed by Hunnam and Jonathan Groff, with executive production by Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel, and Jackie Cohn, the series will be produced by FX Productions and 20th Television, and will be available for streaming on FX and Hulu. Notably, 'Sons of Anarchy' creator Kurt Sutter is not involved in this new venture.

'Sons of Anarchy' was a monumental success for FX, spanning 92 episodes across seven seasons and becoming the network's highest-rated series. Hunnam's return to FX follows his critically acclaimed performance in 'Monster: The Ed Gein Story,' for which he earned an Emmy nomination. He is also currently involved in the BBC series adaptation of John le Carré's novel 'Legacy of Spies.' The legacy of 'Sons of Anarchy' also includes the successful 2018 spin-off 'Mayans M.C.,' which ran for five seasons, concluding in 2023.
