Wonder Project announces a major strategic initiative to broaden its international television production, bringing a trio of new series from the United Kingdom and Ireland to its diverse catalog. This move highlights a deliberate focus on narratives that, while culturally specific, possess universal appeal through their exploration of human connections and experiences.

Expanding Horizons: Global Storytelling Takes Center Stage

A Strategic Vision for Global Content Acquisition

Wonder Project's head of content acquisition, Tristen Tuckfield, emphasized the company's interest in stories that are deeply rooted in unique cultural contexts yet resonate broadly due to their focus on compelling characters and relationships. This approach drives their selection of projects from the UK and Ireland, regions renowned for producing distinctive voices and internationally acclaimed programs.

Julia Roberts Narrates "Leonard and Hungry Paul" for U.S. Audiences

Among the newly acquired projects is "Leonard and Hungry Paul," a highly praised six-part series from Northern Ireland, which will now be exclusively streamed in the U.S. as a Wonder Project Original. Narrated by Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts, the series follows two introverted friends in their thirties whose tranquil lives are disrupted by unforeseen events, pushing them into new, broader possibilities. The show, which has already received critical acclaim after its premiere on BBC One Northern Ireland, BBC Two, and BBC iPlayer, stars Alex Lawther, Laurie Kynaston, and Jamie-Lee O'Donnell.

Russell T. Davies' "You & Me" Finds a U.S. Home

Wonder Project has also secured the exclusive U.S. premiere rights for "You & Me," a three-part drama executive produced by the renowned Russell T. Davies. Produced by Happy Prince, an ITV Studios entity, the series delves into themes of love, loss, and the journey toward renewed happiness after profound tragedy. Starring Harry Lawtey and Jessica Barden, all three episodes of "You & Me" are scheduled to debut on Wonder on August 6th.

"Rewarding": A New Comedy Exploring Social Care

Completing the new slate is "Rewarding," an original six-part comedy series co-commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland and Wonder Project, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. Produced by Conker Pictures, a Banijay UK company, the series offers a comedic yet insightful look into the lives of support workers and their disabled and neurodivergent clients within the domiciliary care system. The show leverages Matthew McDevitt's personal experiences to deliver authenticity, humor, and emotional depth. Featuring comedian Vittorio Angelone and Hannah McClean, "Rewarding" is set for a late 2026 premiere on Wonder.

Commitment to Authentic and Inclusive Storytelling

Justin Rosenblatt, head of global TV at Wonder Project, highlighted the importance of creators with a deep understanding of their subject matter. He noted that "Rewarding" embodies this principle, drawing on genuine insights that contribute to its humor, specificity, and emotional honesty. This shared creative vision formed a natural partnership with BBC Northern Ireland, as both entities are committed to supporting emerging talent and showcasing authentic narratives that feature disabled, neurodivergent, and learning disabled individuals in key roles.
