The gaming calendar is set to intensify as August and September 2026 approach, heralding a surge of new titles for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessor. This exciting period is marked by highly anticipated launches from industry giants such as Bethesda, Konami, and From Software. Players can look forward to a diverse range of experiences, including remastered classics, sports simulations, action RPGs, and strategic adventures, with several exclusive titles specifically designed for the new Switch 2 hardware.

August kicks off with significant releases. Bethesda brings 'The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered' to the Switch 2 on August 11th. This version is notable for offering the full game on a physical cartridge, moving away from previous code-in-a-box announcements, and includes extensive DLC such as 'Shivering Isles', 'Knights of the Nine', and various other content packs. Just two days later, on August 13th, EA Sports introduces 'Madden NFL 27' for the Switch 2, featuring a revamped Persona Engine for more realistic player interactions and an in-depth Superstar G.O.A.T. Career Journey. Towards the end of August, on the 27th, Konami's 'Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2' arrives for both Switch 1 and 2, bundling 'MGS4: Guns of the Patriots', 'MGS: Peace Walker', and 'MGS: Ghost Babel' (known as 'Metal Gear Solid' outside Japan). Capping off the month, From Software’s critically acclaimed 'Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition' makes its debut on Switch 2 on August 28th, following a previous delay. This edition includes the 'Shadow of the Erdtree' DLC and unique horse customization, promising an expansive and challenging experience.

September maintains the momentum with a strong lineup. On September 3rd, the co-op exclusive 'Orbitals' launches for Switch 2, inviting players to embark on an intergalactic adventure as Maki and Omura. The same day also sees the release of 'Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition' for Switch 2, offering Team Ninja's action RPG with all three DLCs, expanding its narrative and gameplay. Capcom continues its strong year on September 4th with 'Onimusha: Way of the Sword', a new entry in the beloved swordplay series set in Edo-period Kyoto, battling supernatural forces. Nintendo's first-party contribution for September arrives on the 17th with 'Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave' for Switch 2, a new installment in the turn-based strategy series that promises to leverage the hardware's capabilities for enhanced visuals. Finally, on September 18th, 'LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight' lands on Switch 2, bringing the Caped Crusader's origin story and battles against his iconic rogues' gallery to a Nintendo console after a long absence.

Beyond individual game releases, prospective Switch 2 owners should note an upcoming price adjustment. Effective September 1st, 2026, the price of a Switch 2 console will increase by $50 USD / 30€. Nintendo has, however, made several summer hardware bundles available to mitigate this change. These include the 'Switch 2 + Pokémon Pokopia bundle' in Europe and a 'Choose your Game bundle' (featuring Pokopia as an option) in North America, allowing players to secure their console before the price hike. Additionally, a range of new Switch 2 accessories will be released, and players can purchase eShop credit directly from the Nintendo Life store, with proceeds supporting the platform.

The coming months promise a rich tapestry of gaming options for Nintendo enthusiasts. From immersive open-world epics and intense action titles to cooperative adventures and strategic combat, the diverse selection ensures there's something to captivate every player. The anticipation builds for these new digital worlds and experiences, particularly with the continued evolution of the Switch platform.

Why a Dragon Age Remastered Trilogy is Unlikely
Former Dragon Age producer Mark Darrah believes a remastered "Champion's Edition" of the Dragon Age trilogy, similar to Mass Effect's Legendary Edition, is highly improbable. This is primarily due to the original games being built on disparate, custom engines, and a lack of current BioWare staff with the necessary expertise for such a project. Despite the potential for improved visuals, the technical and logistical hurdles make it a remote possibility.
