Sumitomo Corporation has announced a significant investment in the Gwynt Glas Offshore Wind Farm, securing a 33.3% equity stake in the ambitious project. This floating offshore wind farm, situated in the Celtic Sea off the coast of the UK, is a collaborative effort with EDF Power Solutions UK and Ireland, and the Electricity Supply Board (ESB). The project is slated to achieve an impressive generation capacity of up to 1.5GW and is strategically located approximately 40 kilometers from the British coastline.

This acquisition represents a pivotal moment for Sumitomo, marking its inaugural investment in a floating offshore wind venture, although the company has been an active participant in European offshore wind initiatives since 2014. The UK government has identified floating offshore wind technology as crucial for achieving its Net Zero 2050 environmental objectives.
