Spring 2027 Beauty Trends: A Parisian Perspective

As the curtains close on Fashion Month, Paris has once again proven its influential role in shaping global beauty trends. The Spring 2027 collections were a vibrant tapestry of innovative and expressive beauty statements, marking a period of heightened international creativity. From the understated chic of New York's minimalist hairstyles and nail art to Milan's playful embrace of 'morning-after' aesthetics, designers and artists collectively fostered an environment of bold exploration.

Behind the scenes in the French capital, unique trends blossomed, such as the striking pink hair seen at Isabel Marant, a deliberate homage to Kate Moss's iconic 90s look, expertly crafted by Damien Boissinot. Additionally, ingenious accessories emerged, like headbands ingeniously fashioned from elasticized sunglasses, a creation by Guido Palau for both Pierpaolo Piccioli's Balenciaga and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's Loewe. However, beyond these individual highlights, certain overarching themes consistently reappeared, including the resurgence of dramatic bangs and a refreshing 'no-rules' approach to vibrant red nail polish.

One of the most prominent hair statements for Spring 2027 was undeniably the 'big-time bangs'. Vogue's beauty team, with their meticulous 'Part Chart' tracking seasonal hair directions, confirmed that a forward fringe was indeed the moment's reigning star. Hair artist Duffy presented an impressive array of bangs at Celine, ranging from delicate, wispy points and casually tousled styles beneath headbands to elegant side-swept curtains, sleek glassy straight cuts, and soft, fuzzy waves. Further amplifying this trend, Duffy adorned models' hairlines at Louis Vuitton with intricate beaded bangs. For Kiko Kostadinov, hair artist Tomihiro Kono's handcrafted wiglet bangs were notably crimped, colorful, and distinctly shorter than those at Loewe, where both authentic and artificial fringes, styled by Palau, completely obscured the models' eyes. Even Jennifer Lawrence, gracing the front row at Dior, showcased a freshly trimmed set, with her stylist Matthew Sosnowski emphasizing that "hair acts as the canvas's frame, and fringe consistently provides that beautifully."

Reflective finishes were another key element embraced by artists, manifested in both overt and subtle ways. Lucia Pieroni's deliberate crystal embellishments around the eyes at Celine and Fara Homidi's silver-leaf foreheads at Gabriela Hearst were bold declarations. More nuanced interpretations appeared as vinyl-like sheens: Lucy Bridge at Tom Ford applied the brand's Runway Eye Gloss over eyeshadow, while Diane Kendal at Isabel Marant subtly dabbed Smith's Rosebud Salve directly onto eyelids. At Chloé, models' cheekbones, massaged with isClinical hyaluronic-acid-infused Hydra-Cool Serum, perfectly caught the light, and Christopher Esber's collection featured "luminous" skin achieved with Anua's PDRN line, designed to enhance natural beauty with a focus on "softness and light," as described by the designer to Vogue.

The runways also celebrated a defiant 'no-rules' stance on ruby red nails. Nail artist Mei Kawajari's application at Miu Miu was deliberately imperfect, embodying a youthful spirit while showcasing the power of the shade. She told Vogue, "Red is both feminine and strong. I love its timeless appeal." At Dior, Ama Quashie created a mismatched look with red and burgundy polishes on hands and feet, using Dior Vernis in a deep oxblood shade for nails and a vibrant cherry red for toes. For Celine, Quashie painted nails on the same hand in varying brick shades, offering a playful inconsistency. Manicurist Lora de Sousa at Matières Fécales presented a spectrum of red nail styles, from long, curling claws to XXL ovals and sharp stilettos. Even Rihanna made an appearance at the AWGE runway, sporting a full set of ruby red nails.

This season marked the triumphant return of defined lines, particularly around the eyes. Backstage at Dior, Peter Philips, Christian Dior Makeup's creative and image director, innovatively used strips of "Mylar drag-queen jumbo lashes" to mimic eyeliner shapes or affixed wings of substantial silver glitter with NYX glitter primer onto the eyes of surfer models. Pieroni explored vibrant winged liners at Givenchy, in shades of cobalt, green, violet, and black. At Dries Van Noten, Thomas de Kluyver drew inky liner into the eye hollows and subtly beneath the lash line. Karin Westerlund, the makeup artist for Mugler, pushed boundaries further by extending the reach of feathery lashes, gluing them to the outer corners of feline flicks. As Philips playfully noted, "it's just fun."

While runways often feature dramatically painted lips, in everyday life, we tend to favor balms or stains. This season, however, saw a strong push towards artistic lip applications. Victoria Beckham debuted her new lipstick directly from the runway, which makeup artist Lucia Pica described to Vogue as offering "real sophistication in something so simple" when applied to most models. At Dries Van Noten, De Kluyver crafted ombre fades from vivid red to soft ballet pink, or from deep oxblood to earthy brick. Kendal presented a sharply defined red lip for Lanvin, while Yadim at Valentino opted for fuchsia, creating a 'just-kissed' blurred effect. One could even argue that an eyeliner might suffice to recreate Dame Pat McGrath's striking onyx lip at Schiaparelli. The crucial accompaniment to all these lip statements? A polished, fresh complexion.

The Spring 2027 beauty showcases in Paris transcended mere trends, offering a rich narrative of artistic expression and individual style. From meticulously crafted fringes and dazzling reflective accents to the rebellious charm of red nails and the bold precision of eye and lip artistry, this season celebrated beauty in all its diverse forms. It highlighted a global embrace of creativity, inviting everyone to experiment and personalize their look with confidence and flair.
