Holding firm in second place was the superhero spectacle, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' which, in its sixth week, collected $942,178 from 146,674 admissions across 725 screens. This accounted for 9.6% of the weekend market, elevating its total South Korean gross to $67.9 million from 8,792,026 ticket purchases.
The weekend also saw the debut of Curry Barker's thriller, 'Obsession,' which landed in third place. The film garnered $1.1 million from 138,447 admissions across 717 screens during the three-day period. Since its premiere on September 2nd, 'Obsession' has accumulated a total of $1.4 million from 185,100 viewers.
Local productions continued to make their mark. The family road-trip drama 'The Journey to Gyeongju,' directed by Kim Mi-jo and featuring a star-studded cast including Lee Jung-eun and Gong Hyo-jin, secured fourth place in its second weekend, adding $359,527 from 49,417 admissions. Its cumulative total now stands at $2.1 million from 297,594 admissions. Another local feature, the family crime-drama 'Portrait of a Family,' directed by Lee Ji-won and starring Ryu Seung-ryong and Ha Ji-won, opened in fifth position with $286,526 from 40,835 admissions over the weekend.
