Filmmaker Rohena Gera, renowned for her critically acclaimed debut feature "Sir," which captivated audiences at Cannes' Critics' Week in 2018, is set to unveil her sophomore effort, "Stay." This cross-cultural romantic narrative explores the intricate dynamics of love amidst differing backgrounds.

The film, featuring Pallavi Sharda and Julien de Saint-Jean in lead roles, is currently finalizing its production phase. It is slated for its market debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Indie Sales, a Paris-based distributor, will handle its global release. French audiences can anticipate its theatrical release through Ad Vitam.

"Stay" introduces Sailee, portrayed by Sharda, a newly divorced Indian woman destined to inherit her father's thriving enterprise. Her journey takes an unexpected turn during a visit to Paris, where she encounters Leo, played by de Saint-Jean, a delivery driver harboring aspirations of becoming an actor. Their blossoming romance confronts formidable challenges, including familial expectations, socioeconomic disparities, and the profound cultural contrasts between their lives in France and India. Gera's prior work, "Sir," similarly navigated themes of class and connection through the story of a young affluent man and his widowed domestic worker in Mumbai, earning widespread praise for its sensitive portrayal of human relationships.

Rohena Gera's storytelling consistently champions themes of empathy and understanding, encouraging viewers to look beyond superficial differences. Her films serve as a poignant reminder that love and human connection can bridge even the widest societal divides, fostering a greater appreciation for diverse experiences and challenging preconceived notions. Through her art, Gera inspires us to build a more inclusive and compassionate world.
