Prime Video has officially greenlit 'DINKS,' an innovative improvised multi-camera comedy series, marking a significant first for the streaming platform in this genre. Spearheaded by renowned 'Friends' co-creator Marta Kauffman and Hannah K.S. Canter, the show promises a fresh take on the traditional sitcom format. The cast features the real-life married duo June Diane Raphael and Paul Scheer, both celebrated for their improvisational talents, alongside Jon Gabrus as a series regular. This unique production also pioneers an inventive financing model, bringing together various industry players to support its development.

The series 'DINKS,' an acronym for 'Double Income, No Kids,' will chronicle the experiences of Josh (Paul Scheer) and Charlie (June Diane Raphael). This couple embarks on a journey to construct a life together, symbolized by their ambitious, albeit challenging, endeavor to renovate their dream home. Their decision to eschew traditional family structures in favor of this shared domestic project forms the core narrative, offering a contemporary and relatable perspective on modern relationships.

Marta Kauffman expressed her enthusiasm for 'DINKS,' stating that she had long awaited an opportunity to redefine the multi-camera comedy. She, along with Okay Goodnight, decided to take matters into their own hands, resulting in a show she describes as distinctive, laugh-out-loud funny, and heartwarming. Kauffman likened the filming experience to a thrilling, unpredictable roller coaster ride, emphasizing the spontaneous and enjoyable nature of the production.

A notable aspect of 'DINKS' is its groundbreaking financing structure. Beyond being Prime Video's initial multi-camera series, it involves a collaborative funding model. This approach includes Amazon MGM Studios, Lionsgate Television, Kauffman and Canter's production company Okay Goodnight, and Publicis Media Content Innovation. This convergence of a streamer, traditional studios, and an advertising agency's entertainment division highlights an evolving landscape in television production and investment.

Eric Levin, Chief Creative Officer for Publicis Media Content Innovation, underscored the increasing necessity for collaborative partnerships in premium storytelling. He views this model as a strategic fusion of capital and development expertise, offering an alternative pathway for high-quality projects in an intensely competitive market. Levin believes that the future of television financing will be driven by such innovative collaborations, which are as forward-thinking as the content they support.

Kauffman and Canter penned the pilot episode, which Amazon MGM commissioned in April 2024. Kauffman serves as the showrunner and an executive producer, alongside Canter, Robbie Rowe Tollin, Jesse Schiller, and stars Raphael and Scheer. This ensemble aims to deliver a memorable and groundbreaking comedy experience.

This innovative series not only promises compelling entertainment through its improvised format but also represents a novel business model for television production. By integrating diverse financial and creative entities, 'DINKS' stands as an example of how the industry is adapting to new challenges and opportunities. The involvement of seasoned professionals like Marta Kauffman ensures a blend of proven comedic prowess with fresh, experimental storytelling, making 'DINKS' a highly anticipated addition to Prime Video's content library.
