National Youth Theatre Celebrates 70th Anniversary with Star-Studded 'Letters to My Younger Future Self' Event
The National Youth Theatre (NYT) of the UK is marking a significant milestone, its 70th anniversary, with a unique performance called 'Letters to My Younger Future Self'. This special one-night event is set to take place on September 20 at the Royal Festival Hall in London's Southbank Centre, with support from Netflix.
A star-studded lineup of NYT alumni and champions will participate, sharing personal stories and imparting wisdom. Notable figures confirmed include BAFTA winner Adeel Akhtar, 'Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story' star India Amarteifio, Fehinti Balogun, Jessica Henwick from 'Game of Thrones', Rob Rinder, Sarah Solemani, and 'Adolescence' co-creator Jack Thorne. Additionally, heartfelt letters from esteemed actors Judi Dench and Lashana Lynch will be presented. The production is a collaborative effort, with NYT CEO and artistic director Paul Roseby co-directing alongside Josie Daxter. The team also includes Krishna Istha and Sophie Ellerby for dramaturgy, Will Duke on video design, Prema Mehta for lighting, Nicola Chang for sound, and Matthew Wells for movement choreography. Young talents from the Netflix and National Youth Theatre's 'Ignite Your Creativity' initiative will also be actively involved in various production and performance aspects.
Many of the participants, including Akhtar, Thorne, Amarteifio, and Henwick, have spoken passionately about the formative influence of the NYT on their careers.
