"Pokémon Go" periodically hosts a special in-game event called Spotlight Hour, significantly increasing the spawn rate of a particular Pokémon. These events also typically include a bonus, such as doubled candy or experience points, providing players with additional incentives to participate. For October 2026, five such Spotlight Hours are scheduled, each offering distinct advantages.

Spotlight Hour events are held from 6-7 p.m. on designated days. These hours present an excellent opportunity to accumulate candy for specific Pokémon you aim to power up or evolve, and even to potentially discover a shiny variant. Although official shiny rates are not boosted during these events, the sheer volume of Pokémon appearing within the hour-long period substantially increases your chances of encountering a rare shiny creature. Before a temporary hiatus in March 2026, Spotlight Hours were regularly held on Tuesdays. They were later moved to Thursdays in June 2026, with some appearing on random days in September 2026, often coinciding with other events. As of now, they have returned to their Thursday schedule.

The lineup for "Pokémon Go" Spotlight Hours in October 2026 includes:

  • October 1: Seedot (with a bonus of 2x catch XP)
  • October 8: Elgyem (with a bonus of 2x catch candy)
  • October 15: Stufful (with a bonus of 2x transfer candy)
  • October 22: Morelull (with a bonus of 2x catch Stardust)
  • October 29: Gastly (with a bonus of 2x evolution XP)

All featured Pokémon have shiny versions available for capture during their respective Spotlight Hours.

Leveraging the significant bonuses offered during Spotlight Hours, seasoned players often devise strategies for optimal Pokémon transfers and evolutions. For instance, if you have numerous Pidgey or other Pokémon with abundant candy that you wish to evolve for XP or to complete your Pokédex, it's advisable to save them for the Spotlight Hour offering double evolution XP. Activating a Lucky Egg during this specific hour can further amplify your gains. Similarly, if you possess an excess of legendary Pokémon that are no longer needed, consider transferring them during the double transfer candy Spotlight Hour to maximize your candy returns.

Strategic engagement with the weekly Spotlight Hours offers players a chance to significantly enhance their gameplay by accumulating essential resources and advancing their Pokédex progress. Careful planning around the featured Pokémon and their associated bonuses ensures a rewarding experience for all participants.
