Lucid Air Recalls Nearly All Vehicles Due to Fire Risk

The Lucid Air, celebrated for its remarkable acceleration and impressive driving range, now faces a substantial challenge: a widespread recall affecting nearly every model sold. This recall underscores the complexities of advanced automotive technology, even for vehicles that have otherwise garnered significant praise in the electric vehicle market.

The comprehensive recall encompasses 27,185 Lucid Air vehicles manufactured between October 2021 and July 2026. The root cause is identified as a software malfunction within the low-voltage circuitry responsible for the exterior lighting system, rather than the high-voltage battery or electric motors. This software flaw can lead to excessive power draw, resulting in overheating components and potentially causing smoke or fire. Lucid has reported several incidents, including three fires and numerous warranty claims related to damaged wiring, highlighting the severity of the issue.

Fortunately, Lucid has developed a software solution to rectify this problem. An over-the-air update, version 2.10.0, was released in July 2026. This update enhances the eFuse protection, preventing circuits from drawing unsafe levels of power. A large portion of affected vehicles, approximately 20,719, have already received this critical update. For the remaining 6,466 vehicles, owners are advised to install the update promptly and, as a precautionary measure, park their cars outdoors and away from structures until the software is applied. Lucid will begin sending official notifications to owners in October 2026, urging those who experience any signs of overheating or lighting malfunctions to seek immediate inspection.

This event serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing evolution in vehicle technology and the industry's commitment to safety. Proactive measures, such as over-the-air updates and swift recalls, demonstrate a dedication to protecting consumers and upholding high standards of quality. It highlights the importance of continuous monitoring and responsiveness in ensuring the reliability of innovative electric vehicles, ultimately fostering greater trust and confidence in the future of automotive advancements.
