Jaguar's Chief Designer Departs Company

Gerry McGovern, the long-standing design director for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), is concluding his tenure with the company this month to embark on a new professional journey. This marks his official departure, following earlier unconfirmed reports in December regarding his exit from the automotive giant. At that time, JLR had refuted the claims, stating they were inaccurate.

It has been confirmed through an internal memo, obtained by Autocar and verified by the automaker, that McGovern is indeed leaving to establish his own creative consultancy. Throughout his distinguished career, which began with the Austin Rover Group and included a period at Ford, McGovern dedicated over two decades to Jaguar and Land Rover. During this time, he was instrumental in shaping iconic models like the Land Rover Defender and the Range Rover Evoque, and also spearheaded the design of the highly debated Type 00 concept.

In his farewell memo, McGovern expressed profound gratitude for his two-decade-long career at JLR, extending his thanks to the Tata family. PB Balaji, JLR’s new CEO, acknowledged McGovern's substantial contributions to the company, highlighting the impact of his work.
