Jackbox Games is preparing to release a standalone version of its highly popular social deduction game, 'Fakin' It,' from the 'Jackbox Party Pack 3.' This new iteration, titled 'Fakin' It XL,' is slated for launch on November 12, 2026. The upcoming release aims to address previous limitations, particularly in remote play, by introducing innovative features such as player avatars that accurately convey reactions and two brand-new secret tasks. These enhancements are designed to elevate the deceptive fun for up to eight players across various gaming platforms, promising a more engaging and accessible experience for fans of the original game.

Since its initial release within 'Jackbox Party Pack 3' a decade ago, 'Fakin' It' has consistently captivated audiences with its unique blend of wit and deception. Players are tasked with answering questions through gestures or text, while one 'faker' attempts to mimic honest responses without knowing the actual question beforehand. The game's success underscores the growing appeal of social deduction mechanics, which have gained significant traction in the gaming world over the past decade. This enduring popularity has motivated Jackbox Games to evolve 'Fakin' It' into a dedicated title, expanding on its core principles of subtle misdirection and hilarious interactions.

One of the primary challenges for 'Fakin' It,' especially during the recent shift towards remote gaming, was the difficulty of interpreting facial expressions—a crucial element for identifying the faker—in online settings. Brooke Hofer, Chief Marketing Officer at Jackbox Games, elaborated on how 'Fakin' It XL' will overcome this. The new version will feature player avatars designed to accurately depict reactions to prompts, thereby assisting remote players in discerning genuine responses from feigned ones. This improvement is expected to significantly enhance the online play experience, making it as immersive as playing locally.

Furthermore, 'Fakin' It XL' will introduce two novel secret tasks meticulously crafted for online engagement: 'Emojional Damage' and 'Thumb Luck.' In 'Emojional Damage,' players must choose the perfect emoji in response to a question, while the faker is given only a general emoji category and must fabricate a plausible story to align with the chosen emoji. Similarly, 'Thumb Luck' challenges players to offer a thumbs up or down on various topics, with the faker responding blindly, often leading to comical situations where they must justify an incongruous reaction, such as being against 'Dogs in Costumes.' These additions are expected to inject fresh dynamics and layers of deception into the game.

Hofer emphasized that 'Fakin' It XL' will retain all the beloved aspects of the original game, simply making them 'bigger' and better. The essence of 'Fakin' It' lies in the unexpected and often absurd insights players gain about each other. The most compelling rounds occur when multiple individuals could plausibly be the faker, compelling players to defend their truly surprising perspectives. This dynamic tension and the element of surprise are central to the game's charm, and the new version is committed to preserving and amplifying these qualities. 'Fakin' It XL' will be available on Steam, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, with subsequent releases planned for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 later in the year.
