The London Film Festival recently hosted a surprise screening of "I Play Rocky," a biographical drama directed by Peter Farrelly that explores the origins of Sylvester Stallone's celebrated boxing saga.

During the introduction, Farrelly lauded the emerging talent Anthony Ippolito, praising his remarkable portrayal of Stallone. Farrelly revealed that Ippolito's compelling self-recorded audition, filmed in his grandmother's basement on Long Island, immediately convinced the production team, negating the need for a global casting search. The film delves into Stallone's early career struggles as a relatively unknown actor, highlighting his relentless pursuit to both author and star in the 1976 cinematic triumph. The cast includes AnnSophia Robb as Sasha Czack, Matt Dillon as Frank Stallone Sr., P.J. Byrne as producer Irwin Winkler, and Jay Duplass as director John G. Avildsen.

Farrelly expressed profound satisfaction that Stallone himself approved of the film, considering it the ultimate validation regardless of critical or commercial success. Following its well-received premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last month, where it was a contender for the People’s Choice Award, critics have praised the movie. Owen Gleiberman, a chief film critic, commended the film as a "cleverly-crafted crowd pleaser" and highlighted Ippolito's spot-on depiction of Stallone, noting that his performance captures the essence of the actor's "sweetly stubborn and dogged" character. "I Play Rocky" is scheduled for release in U.S. and U.K. cinemas on November 6.

This narrative celebrates the spirit of perseverance and belief in one's vision. Stallone's journey, as depicted in the film, serves as a powerful reminder that dedication and unwavering commitment can transform ambitious dreams into monumental achievements, inspiring future generations to pursue their artistic aspirations with courage and conviction.
