Ford Recalls Thousands of Super Duty Pickups For Failing Fuel Pumps Again
Ford has announced a new recall impacting over seven thousand Super Duty trucks, encompassing models from 2020 to 2022. This action addresses concerns regarding potential malfunctions in the high-pressure fuel pump system, an issue that previously led to a recall in late 2024. The recurrence of this problem, specifically affecting certain F-Series vehicles that were not adequately rectified during the initial recall, necessitates this subsequent corrective measure.
The specific models involved include the 2020-2022 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, the 2021-2022 Ford F600, and the 2022 Ford F-750. Investigations reveal that deposits from biodiesel could accumulate on the pump's drivetrain roller components, potentially causing the high-pressure fuel pump to fail. Earlier attempts to resolve this through a software update for the powertrain control module (PCM) and transmission control module (TCM) were unsuccessful, prompting the need for a new PCM software update. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this particular defect.
Owners of these vehicles are encouraged to verify if their truck is affected by using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website or by contacting Ford's customer service. Recall notification letters are scheduled for distribution starting March 30, 2026. Until then, drivers of potentially impacted Super Duty trucks should remain vigilant for warning signs such as a decrease in engine power, unusual mechanical sounds, or an illuminated check engine light, as Ford will provide the necessary PCM software update free of charge.
This latest recall contributes to Ford's notable record for recalls in 2025, during which the company issued over 150 recalls across its vehicle range, setting a new industry benchmark in the U.S. While the volume of recalls might seem concerning, Ford maintains that these actions are predominantly proactive and represent a fundamental component of its overarching commitment to enhancing vehicle quality and safety. Despite this fuel pump issue being relatively contained, it follows larger recalls affecting Super Duty models, including a widespread issue with trailer brake failures and a driveshaft defect traced to a supplier. Vehicle owners are strongly advised to exercise caution and prioritize repairs for any identified faults, even if they have not yet resulted in adverse incidents.
