This includes films that challenge pessimistic views on ecological crises, confront systemic biases in environmental policies, present novel perspectives on traditional environmental narratives, and focus on climate change solutions for both people and the planet. Additionally, films that incorporate Indigenous and ancestral knowledge into cultural practices, or those depicting efforts to protect and restore natural resources like land, water, and biodiversity, will be considered. Stories where a central character grapples with environmental themes are also pertinent for this recognition.

Key Dates for Submissions and Announcements

The submission window for the Spirit Awards is scheduled to open on August 18th. Following this, jury committee meetings and deliberations will take place from September to October. The recipient of the inaugural Robert Redford Environmental Vision Award will be announced in early December, concurrently with all other Spirit Awards nominees, with the award presentation set for the live ceremony on March 6th.
