Fan Mod Reintroduces Original 'Father' Nier to PC Remaster

A dedicated modder named Elevna has delighted fans by releasing a comprehensive modification for Nier Replicant's 2022 remaster. This project, titled 'Nier Gestalt ver.1.22474487139…', brings back the older, more rugged version of the protagonist, affectionately known as 'Father' Nier, replacing the younger counterpart seen in the remaster.

This mod addresses a long-standing divergence in the Nier series' history. Originally, the game's creator, Yoko Taro, envisioned a youthful protagonist, 'Brother' Nier, for the Japanese PS3 release (Nier Replicant). However, for the Western market, Square Enix opted for a more mature, physically imposing character, 'Father' Nier, in Nier Gestalt for the Xbox 360, believing it would appeal more to Western audiences. The 2022 remaster universally adopted 'Brother' Nier, leaving some Western fans nostalgic for the original 'Father' version. Elevna's mod not only restores the original character model but also meticulously reincorporates voice lines by actor Jamieson Price from the 2010 release, enhancing the immersion. The mod’s attention to detail extends to alternate character outfits, and even adjusts in-game dialogue to reflect the older protagonist's presence, including a clever swap for the dream sequence where the player fights as the other Nier.
