"Ramayana: Part One" Pioneers New Digital Release Strategy on JioHotstar

Post-Theatrical Digital Availability for "Ramayana: Part One"

Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious cinematic adaptation, "Ramayana: Part One," with Ranbir Kapoor and Yash in leading roles, is confirmed for an on-demand purchase option on JioHotstar in India, directly after its run in theaters.

Revolutionary Pay-Per-View Partnership on JioHotstar

This agreement between JioHotstar and Prime Focus Studios establishes a new precedent for the platform, making "Ramayana" its inaugural pay-per-view offering. This ensures viewers can acquire the film for a separate charge and experience it in the highest possible quality on their preferred devices.

Unveiling the Stellar Ensemble and Narrative Core

The epic narrative follows the exiled Prince Rama, portrayed by Kapoor, and his consort Sita, played by Sai Pallavi, as they navigate their banishment. The abduction of Sita by the antagonist Ravana, embodied by Yash, ignites a monumental conflict between the forces of good and evil. The distinguished cast also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, alongside Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, and Kajal Aggarwal.

Global Release Strategy and Multilingual Presentation

Scheduled for a worldwide debut on November 5th, coinciding with the Diwali festivities, the film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and English. It will also be showcased in premium formats such as Imax 3D. Sony Pictures Entertainment is overseeing its global distribution, while Karan Johar's Dharma Productions manages its Indian release.

JioHotstar's Vision: Bridging Cultural Heritage with Technological Accessibility

Nita M. Ambani, the chairperson of JioHotstar, expressed her enthusiasm for bringing "Ramayana" to a broad audience, highlighting its profound cultural significance as a foundational Indian narrative. She emphasized JioHotstar's commitment to leveraging technology to make such important stories accessible to every Indian, introducing new generations to its timeless principles of duty, affection, bravery, and virtue.

Behind the Scenes: Production Excellence and Creative Collaboration

Prime Focus Studios is co-producing the film with DNEG, an acclaimed visual effects and production powerhouse with multiple Oscar wins, and Yash's Monster Mind Creations. "Ramayana" is a live-action venture divided into two parts, with Shridhar Raghavan adapting Valmiki's ancient epic for the screen.

A Producer's Perspective: Prioritizing Accessibility After Theatrical Splendor

Namit Malhotra, the founder and CEO of DNEG and a producer on the film, initially advocated for viewing the film on the largest possible screens, ideally in Imax 3D. However, acknowledging the limitations of India's cinema infrastructure, he recognized JioHotstar as a crucial partner to bring the film to every Indian household, ensuring wide accessibility after its initial theatrical run.

Crafting the Epic: A Blend of Global and Local Artistic Talent

The musical score features contributions from Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery were responsible for the production design, while Terry Notary and Guy Norris directed the action sequences. The film was specifically engineered for Imax and other large-screen formats, showcasing a harmonious collaboration between Indian and international artistic talent

The third quarter saw a 3.7% decrease in production, even as the proportion of projects receiving state subsidies increased. This downturn suggests that while incentives are growing, they are not yet sufficient to counteract the broader challenges faced by the industry, leading to concerns among local officials and industry leaders about the efficacy of current strategies.
