FromSoftware's critically acclaimed action role-playing game, Elden Ring, is poised to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2 this month, following an extended development period. Initially slated for a 2025 release, the 'Tarnished Edition' faced delays after concerns arose regarding its performance on the new console. However, recent demonstrations of the game running on the Switch 2, including new official gameplay footage, suggest that these issues have been largely resolved, promising a polished and engaging experience for players.

A recently unveiled gameplay showcase provides a concise overview of Elden Ring, demonstrating its fluid performance on Nintendo's handheld device. While veteran players may not find many novelties beyond the introduction of new prebuilt starting classes, the video serves as an excellent introduction for Switch 2 owners new to the game. It highlights key features such as cooperative multiplayer and the signature Soulslike challenge that has captivated millions.

Further supporting the positive outlook, additional off-screen gameplay footage, recorded in both docked and handheld modes, has emerged. A nine-minute video from Japanese outlet Denfaminico Gamer showcases what appears to be a highly playable version of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on the Switch 2, reinforcing confidence in the port's quality.

The journey to bring Elden Ring to the Switch 2 has been a protracted one. The port was initially announced in April 2025 during Nintendo's major console showcase, alongside other high-profile re-releases like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy. Despite an initial target release in 2025, a less-than-ideal showing at Gamescom led to a delay into 2026. Nevertheless, subsequent presentations of the Switch 2 port have been far more encouraging, indicating that FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have successfully optimized the expansive fantasy RPG for Nintendo's hybrid platform.

Elden Ring is currently available across various platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The Switch 2 version is scheduled for release on August 28, with the exclusive bonus content from the Tarnished Edition also being offered as paid downloadable content on other platforms.
