Disney+ Greenlights 'House of Fates' Korean Supernatural Reality Competition Series
In a significant expansion of its Korean content, Disney+ has officially ordered “House of Fates,” a new supernatural reality competition. This forthcoming series is a direct offshoot of the critically acclaimed and highly popular “Battle of Fates,” retaining the original show's producer and writer to ensure continuity and quality.
Filmed entirely within South Korea, “House of Fates” will bring back the three leading divination masters from its predecessor, alongside selected former contestants. The program will see these participants travel throughout the country, immersing themselves in ancient Korean spiritual traditions, participating in ceremonial practices, observing local customs, and sharing communal meals. A core element of the series involves cast members receiving personal fate readings and delving into their own life stories, particularly focusing on relationships and personal hardships. The show further explores the rich tapestry of Korean spiritual life by directly engaging with shamanic rituals, presenting these practices as fundamental to the nation's cultural heritage.
“Battle of Fates” debuted on February 11 and quickly ascended to become the top-ranked series premiere on Disney+ Korea, based on viewership within its initial 12 days. The original competition showcased experts in various divination arts, including shamanism, tarot, face reading, foot reading, and saju, as they undertook challenges that tested their predictive and interpretative skills using both traditional instruments like fans and bells, and modern tools such as laptops. Following its success, localized versions of “Battle of Fates” are now under development in other international markets, with “House of Fates” being the first spin-off sanctioned by Disney+ since the original series' launch. The first season of “Battle of Fates” consists of ten episodes, all of which are currently available for streaming on Disney+, alongside other popular Korean variety programs like “I Am Boxer,” “The Zone: Survival Mission,” and “My Name Is Gabriel,” featuring Blackpink’s Jennie. Disney+ has yet to announce the official release date for “House of Fates.”
