Cricket has emerged as the leading content category in India's digital streaming sector, according to the latest Ormax StreamView report. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, exclusively available on JioHotstar, garnered an impressive 246 million viewers between January and June of that year, establishing itself as the most-watched program within the tracked framework.

Following closely, the Indian Premier League 2026, also broadcast on JioHotstar, secured the second position with 228.4 million viewers. Non-sports content like "India's Got Latent" Season 2 and "Dhurandhar" occupied the subsequent ranks, while another cricket series featuring India and New Zealand completed the top five with 30.5 million viewers. The Ormax StreamView (OSV), launched in January 2026, was developed to monitor long-form content across various digital platforms, including original series, general entertainment, films, non-fiction, sports, and news, expanding beyond its initial focus on Hindi-language and international productions.

Shailesh Kapoor, founder and CEO of Ormax, stated that the initiative aims to address the fundamental question of what content is resonating with Indian streaming audiences. Ormax noted that this comprehensive approach reflects the increasingly intricate and diverse viewing patterns, as audiences frequently navigate between different formats, genres, languages, and streaming services. The viewership data, derived from weekly surveys of over 3,000 participants and an dedicated audience panel, excludes overseas viewership and short-form video, focusing solely on individual viewers who watched a title for at least 30 minutes. This detailed analysis underscores cricket's unparalleled influence on India's streaming preferences and the broader evolution of digital media consumption in the country.
