Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) recently wrapped up its Spring 2027 season, marking a significant milestone with its 20th anniversary. This season witnessed an unprecedented turnout, filled with dynamic showcases from both emerging and established designers. The event served as a vibrant platform for celebrating the fashion industry's enduring spirit and creative innovation, with a noticeable shift towards embracing diverse aesthetics and collaborations.

The latest Copenhagen Fashion Week, spanning four eventful days, drew to a close with its Spring 2027 collections. This season was particularly notable as it coincided with CPHFW's 20th anniversary, leading to a packed schedule and the largest attendance in its history. Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of CPHFW, chose to focus her opening address on acknowledging the remarkable resilience of brands that have navigated challenging times. She highlighted that the strength of Copenhagen Fashion Week is a direct reflection of the talent and dedication of the designers and brands it features.

A significant aspect of this season was the influx of international participation, solidifying Copenhagen's ambition to be recognized as a premier global fashion capital. Brands such as Paolina Russo from London and Iamisigo from Lagos, previous Zalando Visionary Award recipients, made a strong impact with their engaging presentations. Paolina Russo's show, featuring a vibrant 'battle of the bands' and a large public audience, generated considerable buzz. Additionally, this season introduced a dedicated international guest slot, with New York's Collina Strada showcasing a unique collection crafted from upcycled materials, underscoring the fashion week's commitment to sustainability. Designer Hillary Taymour emphasized the freedom this platform offered for material exploration and craftsmanship, aiming to remind audiences of fashion's capacity for surprise. This initiative was supported by The Climate Pledge, an Amazon-backed fund dedicated to achieving net-zero carbon emissions.

The event also saw the much-anticipated return of several influential Scandinavian brands after periods of absence. Marimekko, known for its bold floral patterns, rejoined the schedule after celebrating its 75th anniversary in Finland, while Stine Goya made a comeback with a captivating rollerskating performance. Stine Goya, the founder and creative director, explained that the hiatus allowed for a reevaluation of the brand's live show approach, leading to a collection inspired by historical resilience during uncertain times. Similarly, By Malene Birger marked its return after a six-year break, showcasing a collection that reflected a refined brand identity and re-engaged with the Danish fashion community. The show, held at a private estate, was lauded for its seamless blend of location, atmosphere, and apparel, creating an emotional connection with the audience.

Furthermore, the Spring 2027 season highlighted a growing trend of established brands fostering emerging talent. Ganni, a prominent Danish brand, provided deadstock fabrics to Stem, a zero-waste label, enabling its first runway show. This collaboration resulted in unique, leopard-print and floral-jacquard designs that expanded Stem's signature weaving techniques. Pandora, the global jewelry giant, also played a crucial role by sponsoring the CPHFW opening gala and its New Talent program, offering mentorship and financial support to burgeoning designers. Footwear collaborations were another key feature, with emerging brands partnering with names like Ecco, Hoff, and Nike to present innovative and visually striking shoe designs.

Copenhagen Fashion Week, often seen as an early indicator of global trends, suggested a departure from strict minimalism. The omnipresence of lace in various forms—from lace-trimmed slips at The Garment to embellished tops at Opéra Sport—pointed to a shift towards more intricate and textured designs. Similarly, sheer crochet dresses and vibrant, transparent shifts were showcased by labels like Mr Larkin. The characteristic high-low styling of Copenhagen fashion, which combines sporty outerwear with voluminous dresses or elegant pieces with textured accessories, remained prominent. Observers noted an explosion of color and texture, signaling that the era of quiet minimalism might be waning in Danish fashion, replaced by a bolder, more expressive aesthetic.
