Initially, one individual, identified as Li, commenced these illicit activities independently, focusing on a hotel located in Shihezi City. The high demand and escalating costs of RAM, largely influenced by current market conditions, rendered it a lucrative target, particularly the high-performance memory modules typically found in gaming computers.

Following his solo ventures, Li reportedly brought in an accomplice named Cheng. Together, from mid-May to the end of the month, the duo systematically checked into various esports hotels. Their modus operandi involved dismantling gaming PCs to extract the valuable RAM modules.

It is alleged that the pair subsequently sold the stolen memory on online second-hand trading platforms. Reports suggest they amassed a profit of approximately 13,200 yuan, equivalent to nearly $2,000 USD, from a total of 16 stolen RAM sticks. The ease of concealing these compact yet high-value components, coupled with their soaring market price, makes them particularly appealing to thieves in the current tech landscape.
