In celebration of the enduring legacy of jazz innovator Miles Davis, Breitling has introduced a special edition of its iconic Navitimer timepiece. Known for his pioneering musical contributions and impeccable personal style, Davis was a trendsetter whose discerning taste extended to his wristwear. This new release honors his connection to the Breitling Navitimer, offering enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of horological history intertwined with a cultural legend.

Miles Davis, beyond his revolutionary impact on jazz, was celebrated for his exceptional sense of style, earning him top accolades as a fashion-forward musician. His preference for high-performance vehicles, such as Ferraris, further underscored his appreciation for sophisticated design and engineering. Among his notable accessories was a particular Breitling Navitimer ref. 806, often seen on his left wrist, featuring a distinctive 'reverse panda' dial and sometimes paired with a broad leather 'Bund' strap or a mesh bracelet. Originally conceived for pilots, the Navitimer quickly became a favorite among individuals seeking a reliable, luxurious chronograph, renowned for its 'beaded' bezel and its capacity for on-the-fly complex calculations like airspeed and fuel consumption.

As the centennial of Davis's birth approaches, Breitling is reintroducing a version of the exact Navitimer model he favored – a ref. 806 'Mk. 5'. This limited edition, the Breitling Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Miles Davis, is restricted to only 500 units worldwide. It retains the classic 'reverse panda' dial configuration, characterized by white subdials against a black main dial, along with vintage-inspired yellow luminous material on the hands and indices. Sized at 41mm, it mirrors the dimensions of the original late-1960s model but houses a contemporary Breitling Manufacture Caliber B09 movement. This COSC-certified movement boasts a 70-hour power reserve and is visible through a sapphire caseback, blending historical design with modern watchmaking excellence.

Customers have the option to choose between a traditional brown calf leather strap with a steel folding clasp or a novel stainless steel 'Air Racer' bracelet for the new Navitimer. The 'Air Racer' bracelet, first seen in the 1960s and famously worn by French musician Serge Gainsbourg in the 1980s, fuses the robustness of a metal cuff with the sporty appeal of a vintage rally-style strap, featuring distinctive perforations. This unique bracelet adds an unexpected yet harmonious flair to the Navitimer's otherwise functional design.

The dial of the Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Miles Davis is adorned with the Breitling 'Twin Jet' logo, a hallmark of mid-century Navitimers not associated with AOPA. The caseback is inscribed with 'One of 500' and 'Miles Davis Centennial'. Furthermore, purchasers gain two years of access to the Breitling Social Club, an exclusive retail and social hub for Breitling clients slated to open in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in late 2027. For those desiring an even more comprehensive tribute, Breitling is also releasing a special set of 50 pieces, comprising three distinct Navitimer versions: the standard steel edition, a yellow gold variant also with a 'reverse panda' dial, and a platinum model featuring a blue dial with white subdials. Acquiring this trio grants lifetime membership to the club, where jazz music will undoubtedly complement the ownership experience of these remarkable timepieces.

Beyond the exclusive memberships and the refined movement, this new Breitling offering stands as an exceptionally elegant timepiece within the brand's collection. The timeless 'reverse panda' dial configuration lends a sophisticated touch to the intricate watch face, while the choice of bracelet options adds a contemporary edge to its inherently robust character. This release truly embodies the spirit of Miles Davis, a figure synonymous with style, innovation, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.
