The initial public reception to BMW's clever prank was so enthusiastic that the automaker felt compelled to bring this unique racing wagon to fruition.

The M3 Touring race car is not merely a cosmetic modification; it is engineered with serious performance in mind. It mirrors the robust technical specifications and underlying architecture of the formidable BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Powering this racing machine is BMW's potent turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, capable of generating an impressive output of up to 590 horsepower. While the powertrain and chassis components are shared, the most notable visual distinction lies in its exterior, which features a lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic body shell meticulously crafted to replicate the distinctive silhouette of the wagon.

The Journey from Drawing Board to Racetrack

BMW's journey with the M3 Touring as a potential race car began much earlier than its April Fool's reveal. Discussions around a racing variant of the M3 Touring commenced shortly after the production model's debut in 2022.
