To mark its 30-year milestone, "The Daily Show" has released an exclusive 10-minute compilation on YouTube, featuring never-before-seen audition footage from its past and present roster of correspondents. This rare peek into the show's history includes tryouts from all five of the current rotating hosts, many of whom are seen engaging in humorous exchanges with either Jon Stewart or Trevor Noah during their initial screen tests.

The audition styles varied significantly, with some candidates, such as Jordan Klepper, presenting their material as full correspondent segments, complete with suits and a green screen simulating Washington, D.C. In contrast, others, like Desi Lydic, adopted a more relaxed approach, appearing to converse with an off-screen producer reading lines from a script. The compilation highlights these diverse approaches to comedic performance and the unique personalities that have shaped the show over the decades.

Notable figures featured in the unearthed tapes include a youthful John Oliver, who joined the program in 2006, playfully bantering with Stewart about changing his name. Also making appearances are Samantha Bee, who served as a correspondent from 2003 to 2015 before leading her own series, "Full Frontal," and Michael Che, who had a brief stint on "The Daily Show" before moving on to "Saturday Night Live." Additional footage reveals the early comedic efforts of Jessica Williams, Roy Wood Jr., Rob Riggle, Jason Jones, Wyatt Cenac, Ed Helms, and Rob Corddry, the latter two performing a shared sketch about modifications to Winter Olympic sports from 2002. This collection provides an insightful look into the talent discovery and development that has been central to the enduring success of "The Daily Show."

This release celebrates the dedication and comedic brilliance that have made "The Daily Show" a cultural touchstone. It underscores the importance of fostering new talent and adapting to changing times while maintaining a core commitment to sharp, insightful humor. The transparency of sharing these early career moments inspires aspiring comedians and reminds us that even the most accomplished artists begin with humble, yet promising, auditions.
