Armarium's Spring 2027: A Blend of Structure and Sensuality
Armarium's Spring 2027 collection, titled "Control/Release," reimagines contemporary femininity through a sophisticated lens that balances defined structures with flowing elegance. Designer Giorgia Gabriele envisioned a woman who embodies both power and grace, finding inspiration in iconic figures like Bianca Jagger and Charlotte Rampling. This season introduces lighter fabrics and innovative construction techniques, allowing for a multifaceted wardrobe that caters to various expressions of identity. The collection seamlessly blends masculine tailoring with subtle sensuality, reflecting a modern woman's freedom to embrace diverse styles without limitation.
The creative vision for the "Control/Release" collection was rooted in Gabriele's desire to evoke a particular feeling rather than just a visual aesthetic. She sought to capture the instinctive allure of Bianca Jagger, known for infusing masculine silhouettes with innate sensuality, alongside the composed elegance of Charlotte Rampling, as immortalized by photographer Helmut Newton. Newton's ability to portray women occupying space with a compelling presence significantly influenced Gabriele's approach. The confluence of these inspirations led to a design philosophy that champions versatility, allowing the wearer to shift effortlessly between sensual, austere, feminine, and masculine personas without needing to choose a singular identity.
This theme of duality, a continuous interplay between rigidity and fluidity, is evident throughout Armarium's tailoring. For Spring 2027, Gabriele utilized a remarkably lightweight 220-gram stretch wool, departing from the brand's traditional heavier fabrics. This shift aimed to create garments that feel almost weightless while maintaining crisp lines. Notable pieces include a sharply cut white suit, a cropped black jacket paired with low-rise trousers, and an oversized white shirt cinched with double-buckle belts. Even minute tailoring details received fresh consideration, such as the use of pocket-style welts in place of conventional buttonholes. Luxurious nappa leather, previously confined mostly to accessories, now features prominently in dresses and outerwear. A particularly innovative piece is a nappa skirt bonded to grey mélange jersey, showcasing Gabriele's experimental approach to combining disparate materials to achieve both structure and inherent softness.
The collection also explores sensuality through deliberate restraint. Dresses crafted from double silk satin and ethereal viscose crêpe feature open backs and raw-edge seams, revealing glimpses of skin without overt exposure. Knitwear, typically form-fitting in previous Armarium collections, adopts looser, openwork constructions. These designs allow the body to be seen subtly, finished with delicate fur-stitch embroidery at the hem, creating an effect Gabriele describes as letting the garments "breathe" and "show beyond, without showing too much."
While the collection's primary palette consists of black and white, vibrant red accents appear in select key ensembles, symbolizing "strength and self-confidence," as described by Gabriele. The accessory line upholds Armarium's philosophy of expanding rather than resetting a wardrobe. Jewelry from past seasons reappears, complemented by new T-bar shoes and a reinterpreted Evelina pump featuring a sharper 9.5-centimeter heel. This expanding collection will soon have a dedicated physical space, with Armarium's inaugural Milan store scheduled to open in the Fall, marking a natural progression for the brand to establish a permanent home that fully embodies its distinct vision.
