In a notable strategic move, Ireland-based ABP Food Group has significantly increased its footprint in the British meat sector by acquiring a shareholding in Dovecote Park, a key supplier of beef and venison to the UK market.

This expansion was realized through ABP's acquisition of Benoni Corp, which previously held a minority stake in Dovecote Park. Following this transaction, Benoni Corp's owner, Amanda Buitelaar, stepped down from her director role at Dovecote Park in April. Subsequently, Tom Kirwan of ABP was appointed as a director in June, reflecting ABP's growing influence. While ABP refrained from immediate comment, Dovecote Park officially confirmed the investment, stating it represents a crucial long-term strategic commitment for ABP, which will support the company's strategic direction while preserving the existing management's autonomy to foster business growth. This investment comes as Dovecote Park reported increased turnover but reduced profits in its most recent financial year, indicating a challenging but growing market.

The latest financial disclosures for Dovecote Park, covering the period up to September 26, 2025, revealed a 23.2% surge in turnover to £347 million. Despite this revenue growth, the company experienced an 18.9% decline in operating profit, settling at £3.6 million, and a 17.1% drop in net profit to £2.6 million, primarily due to increased operational and distribution costs. This acquisition follows other strategic business activities by ABP, including the purchase of a German slaughterhouse from Vion Food Group in May and a restructuring initiative earlier in the year that led to job reductions and facility closures in Ireland, aimed at adapting to evolving market dynamics and consolidating operations.

This strategic investment by ABP Food Group into Dovecote Park underscores a commitment to growth and market consolidation within the European meat industry. By integrating Dovecote Park into its portfolio, ABP is not only expanding its market reach but also investing in the future of sustainable food supply. Such business decisions reflect a proactive approach to economic challenges, emphasizing adaptability and long-term vision in a dynamic global market.
