The 2027 Ford Bronco Sport enters the market as a compact SUV that successfully integrates the adventurous spirit and design language of its larger Bronco sibling. This model offers a blend of rugged appeal, competent off-road capabilities in its more equipped versions, and practical features for daily driving. It is available with two distinct powertrain options, both paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, delivering a balanced performance ideal for its segment.

For the 2027 model year, Ford has introduced several updates to the Bronco Sport. Enthusiasts will notice three new exterior paint options: Glacier Gray Tri-Coat, Gladwin Green, and Neptune Blue, replacing previous colors. Inside, the Big Bend trim now features fresh cloth upholstery and comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels. However, the auto start-stop function is no longer a standard offering. Additionally, the convenient rear under-seat storage feature has been removed from the Badlands trim.

Under the hood, the Bronco Sport is built on a platform shared with the Escape crossover, ensuring a comfortable ride on paved roads while maintaining its adventurous character. The base model is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower, while a more robust 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is available, delivering 250 horsepower. Our driving experience showed a significant preference for the more powerful four-cylinder, which provides livelier acceleration. Both engines are coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission, with the higher-output engine benefiting from steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

When it comes to off-road prowess, the Bronco Sport truly shines, particularly the Badlands trim equipped with the Sasquatch Package. This package enhances its capabilities with a torque-vectoring rear differential, a specialized one-pedal off-road driving mode, and a 360-degree camera system, making it well-suited for challenging trails. Even the entry-level Big Bend model can be upgraded with the Black Diamond package, adding essential off-road gear such as skid plates, a front brush guard, and all-terrain tires. During test drives, the Sasquatch-equipped Badlands proved highly capable on trails, though its knobby tires did introduce a bit more road noise on highways compared to standard models.

Fuel efficiency remains a strong point for the Bronco Sport. The three-cylinder engine achieves an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. The more powerful four-cylinder variant offers 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. Our independent highway fuel economy test of the smaller engine yielded an impressive 33 mpg, surpassing some competitors. In terms of towing, models with the 2.0-liter engine can handle up to 2700 pounds, while the standard three-cylinder version can tow 2200 pounds, outperforming several rivals in its class.

Inside, the Bronco Sport prioritizes functionality and comfort. The elevated roofline allows for an upright seating position, providing excellent forward visibility. While the cabin features a combination of budget-friendly plastics and more refined soft-touch materials, it incorporates intelligent storage solutions. The Badlands model, for instance, includes washable rubberized flooring and upholstery, ideal for easy cleaning after outdoor adventures. Rear-seat passengers will find comfortable seating thanks to elevated cushions, though knee room can be somewhat restricted, potentially posing a challenge for rear-facing child seats. The cargo area is notably versatile, accommodating two mountain bikes with the rear seats folded. Additional features include a slide-out table, a 400-watt power inverter, LED lights for overhead illumination, and a separately opening rear liftgate glass, along with front-fender tie-downs for roof-mounted gear like kayaks. In practical tests, the Bronco Sport’s cargo bay swallowed 11 carry-on suitcases, expanding to 22 with the rear seats stowed.

Infotainment and connectivity are handled by a 13.2-inch touchscreen with excellent resolution, particularly for the backup camera feed. A 12.3-inch digital gauge display is also standard. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, along with in-dash navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. A six-speaker audio system is standard, with an optional 10-speaker B&O system available for higher trims. Safety is a priority, with standard driver-assistance technologies such as forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. An enhanced adaptive cruise system with lane-centering, known as Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, is an available option.

Ford offers a competitive warranty package for the Bronco Sport, including a three-year or 36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. While comprehensive, it does not include complimentary scheduled maintenance, a benefit offered by some competitors. Overall, the 2027 Ford Bronco Sport stands as a well-rounded compact SUV that capably blends rugged design, diverse powertrain options, and practical interior features, making it a strong contender for those seeking both adventure and everyday utility.
